Exhibition: Send & Ripley in the Roaring Victorian Age!

ree

All aboard for a journey through the fascinating world of Victorian Send and Ripley!

Location: Ripley Museum, next to Ripley Village Hall, High Street, Ripley, GU23 6AF

Opening Times: Every Saturday 10am to 12pm until Sat 09 Oct 2025

Our latest exhibition whisks you back to the 1800s, when steam trains came chugging into Woking Heath—then a sleepy patch of countryside—and everything changed. Discover how the arrival of the railway turned rural life upside down and opened the door to a modern age.

Peek into Victorian classrooms, churches, and drawing rooms as we explore the big changes in education, religion, and everyday village life. Meet the brilliant (and sometimes eccentric) minds who left their mark on the area—H.G. Wells, Ada Lovelace, Thomas Love Peacock, and local legend George “The Lion” Griffiths, whose adventures were anything but ordinary.

It’s a story of invention, imagination, and the unstoppable spirit of the age. Come and see how history steamed into Send and Ripley—and left a lasting legacy!
