About the event

Henry Peak: The Man Who Built Modern Guildford

A talk by Moira McQuaide

Walk through Guildford and you’re walking through Henry Peak’s legacy.

From the High Street and North Street to the Castle Grounds, Peak shaped the town we recognise today. As Guildford’s first Borough Surveyor in the late 19th century, his vision, ambition and engineering skill transformed the landscape, and much of it still surrounds us.

In this fascinating illustrated talk, Moira McQuaide brings to life the man behind the streets, revealing how Peak’s influence continues to shape Guildford well into the 21st century.
