The History of The Bakery

On the corner of Rose Lane there has been a bakers since Victorian times and maybe earlier. We know from records that Alfred Geale was there in 1853. It remained as Geales until Maurice Collins moved from Cobham and bought the bakery in 1911. It remained Collins until his death in 1948. His son, Don, who had trained as a confectioner, sold the Ripley bakery and moved to Woking to carry on his cake making business.
One curiosity is they had a library in the bakery.

Mr Collins, the baker, used to offer for free, to cook the large turkeys for all his regular customers on Christmas day. It has remained a bakers since, being owned by small local chains such as Watsons.
