SEND & RIPLEY HISTORY SOCIETY

The site of Ferma was once W B Green Boot and Shoe factory. The Green family came to Ripley in 1837 and took up the family business of shoe making. Later they branched out into other activities, including opening a hardware store opposite which sold bicycles and later radios and TVs. This was destroyed in a disastrous fire in 1969.

In 1895 Green's was listed as selling furniture, ironmongery, clothes, drapery, watches etc –everything except food. In 1930 the Wyllie family bought the business and eventually the name changed to Wyllie and Mar until its closure.
