Then and now - The Living history of our village
The building that houses Café Beirut, sometimes referred to as London House, has been many things. It was once Styles the drapers. Mr Styles apparently did not like the drapery business and only became a draper only because his wife was in the trade when he married her. It seems she more or less ran the shop. He wanted to be a farmer and eventually bought a farm at Dunsfold. The shop then became King and Hollyer and was the Post Office and later this business was called Light and Sons and they were tailors and outfitters as well as the Post Office. It has also been J & P Jefferies which sold baby wool amongst other things and then The Straits of Malacca, selling imported furniture and in more recent times Lloyds the chemist.
